The War of Souls Series

I wasn't exactly bored by the first two books, but they definitely dragged on ...and on, and on!  But by the end of the second book, I was eagerly awaiting the third!  It was a real cliffhanger ending.  I do have to add that it was the appearance of Dalamar who seemed to wake up the plot and perhaps 'put the magic' back in the storyline!  I had a huge shock in Dragons of a Vanished Moon, page 18.  I was left quite speechless.... but not for long!

I have a vivid imagination.  Always have had.  So the thought of Dalamar (the Dork, see my Links page) and Palin (whom I think of as 'the Wimp - sorry, but he's nothing like his uncle and in my opinion is a rather worthless and uninspiring character) walking round as re-animated corpses had me in hysterics for days.  Personally if I were Raistlin, even though Palin is his nephew, I'd have been totally fed up with his attitude and would probably have turned Palin into a cockroach and squished him flat once and for all.

The climactic ending is all too quick.  I was even left feeling sorry for Silvanoshei.  As for Mina, unfortunately it looks as if she'll be back.

The trilogy has its moments.... and some of them are great ones... but too many that drag on forever.  Get through the first book and you'll be fine on the next two.  But that first one is a hard slog.

Best line:  Vanished Moon, page 13:  "May I be given bat wings to flap around this chamber," Dalamar retorted.  Brilliant!
