Reviews of Dragonlance Novels
Second Generation
These is a collection of short stories, most of which are available in other books, like "The Magic of Krynn", and others in the Tales series. If you haven't read the Tales series however, it is an excellent way to 'catch' up on the children of the original Heroes of the Lance have been up to, in preparation for "Dragons of Summer Flame". All five stories are well written, outstanding are "The Legacy" and "The Sacrifice". The Legacy describes Palin's Test (although I'm not quite sure anyone takes Chapter 10 really seriously, especially if you've read Dragons of Summer Flame afterwards), and exactly who is making the sacrifice in the story of the same name is questionable... seems to be as if all three major players are! Raistlin's Daughter is probably the weakest story of the collection. Again, Summer Flame dispels the myth.
The Companions
The story of what the Heroes of the Lance got up to before they set off from the Inn of the Last Home that fateful day in Ninthmonth ... if you like, the prequel to the Chronicles trilogy.
Brothers Majere
Hey anything with Raistlin in it is just great! A story about Cats (mainly).... and since I'm the proud mamma of four felines, having cats and Raistlin together can't be bad. Actually it's very funny... Best line of the book, page 231, "Fascinating, but, unfortunately, not important," Raistlin remarked. Why does it remind me of Mr. Spock, from the original Star Trek series??!!!
Dalamar the Dark
How and why Dalamar was cast out from the Silvanesti. Leads up to how and why he was apprenticed to Raistlin. I wasn't sure I liked this book the first time I read it. Then I read it again, and loved it. Just goes to show, sometimes it's not about the first reaction. I like Dalamar. Not as much as Raistlin, but it's close. (No, not that close, he'll never overtake his Shalafi!) For what I think Dalamar looks like (nothing like the Elmore image) see my page for Dalamar.
