Welcome

Quick update to this subsite.... although written originally for XP, the procedures are IDENTICAL for Vista and for the yet unreleased Windows 7.

In October 2002 I was very proud to have been invited by Microsoft to become an MVP in the Windows Technologies under the Printing/Imaging and Hardware section.  We have since dropped the Hardware but we are still Printing & Imaging!  And now there are more printers than ever.

What's an MVP?... best way to describe it is to send you to look.  Click on the MVP logo below

I'm not claiming to solve each and every printing problem... but if you're running WindowsXP - either Home, Pro, Tablet or Media Center (and there are over 100 million currently licensed copies of it out there!), chances are high I might be able to help.

I've set up a few pages with the MOST often asked questions that I come across on the newsgroup at microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax (which is one of the places I hang out a lot) ... which should make my life a lot easier as I can just refer posters to my 'standard' answers!  There aren't always answers to every problem.... but these are probably the ones I see on an almost daily basis.  I'm working on adding an article on networking XP/Vista/W7 printers.... even though Microsoft claim it's 'easier than ever' in W7, there are a few things that seem to make it more difficult IMHO.  And even this MVP had some difficulty.  I've also added a few printers to the household collection.  I'll update the computing section shortly.

Thank you for visiting, and I hope I've solved your problem.  A few tips when buying a new printer...

ALWAYS set a limit for your budget and remind yourself what you will be using the printer for.  If you're going to be printing a lot of plain documents, then a laser printer is always the way to go.  It may seem more expensive to start off, but those toner cartridges last and last.  If you're going to be printing photos, then I strongly suggest you consider an inkjet printer which has separate cartridges for each color.  It's much more economical when it comes to replacing the ink.

I hope you enjoyed your stay, please come back again

A little shameless band promotion here because they're amazing
